Cinder Heart Poem by Joshua Thomas

Cinder Heart

Rating: 5.0

What is love to you?
My sweet flower.
Played like a fool,
To regain your power.

“Used! ” Scream I!
You smile,
I sigh.
All the while,

I fall for you again.
Lost in your eyes
I forget what you can
Do with your lies.

Trick me hundreds over
Play me the clown.
So long this joker is your lover,
That you will let down.

Why can’t I leave,
From your grasp so tender?
This bind I can’t cleave,
As my heart turns to cinder.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Wrote this in an airport. Gave myself 15 minutes to come up with something and throw it in. I wanted it to be short and harsh. Blunt and cruel, but something that relates to others and tells a story. I also wanted people to be able to read it quickly, but remember it forever.
