Circle Makes A Round Poem by Pleasant Dabbs

Circle Makes A Round

Watching the baby grow,
Takes me back years ago
I was the small one then
My dad was the proudest of men
It seemed an eternity
‘Til I'd be as old as he

But life tricks you, the time pricks you
Until you come around
The years scold you, then they hold you
‘Til the circle makes a round

Sweet thoughts of yesterday
Caused me to drift away
I saw her satin dress
Qnd felt her first soft caress
Today we are family
Will my boy be just like me?

Cause life tricks you, the time pricks you
Until you come around
The years scold you, then they hold you
‘Til the circle makes a round

I've seen the wild side
I've taken some scary rides
Been on the losing end
And made some unwanted friends
Will my boy have to go through
The same things his dad had to?

Cause life tricks you, the time pricks you
Until you come around
The years scold you, then they hold you
‘Til the circle makes a round
