Claire Should Know Poem by Jerry Trimmell

Claire Should Know

in the chair with the lion's tail
painting the ashes of stepping Anderson
crouched without a recognizable likeness
to the borders of his hands
holding a dried fish
whose personal ambition remains
to become the indifferent leaf,
tearing the ground of a strange country
with the poison flowing in
but no real fear
