Clarity Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

Clarity

To remain present at the right time,
To remain silent when required,
To know what to speak about and when
Without knowing the subject-matter,
To be quiet most of the time, and observe
To look at the appropriate face with awe,
To eulogize and apologize with finesse,
To know how to speak without content,
To revert the argument at the right moment,
To laugh not too loud, yet being prominent
To smile as if God has descended on lips
To know how to nod at proper pace
To bend at an appropriate angle,
To neither look too clever nor too foolish,
To appear reasonable when reasons do not exist, -

All these and some more
Are essential features
Of clarity.
If one has, he is destined to go up
If one hasn't, he is destined to remain flat.

And this above all,
If you do not have clarity,
Do not try to imitate others
Having this gift.
If you still try,
You will end up
Being worse than
Where you are!
