Climbing Poem by Jon M. Nelson

Climbing

I have been down to the lowest level,
Where I stood face to face with the devil.
But I had to raise myself up higher,
And was able to get up out of the fire.

I had dug myself into a deep dark hole,
Where the emptiness would fill my soul.
I had found a way to raise my spirit,
To be able to get up out of that pit.

I have been to the bottom of the abyss,
Where I found that the world was amiss.
I had to climb up toward the light,
And I was able to escape that fight.

I've stood at the base of the mountain,
Where I knew I'd have to climb again.
But I would never be able to stop,
If I ever wanted to reach the top.

I have now reached the highest point,
And up here I hope I don't disappoint.
There's only one place left for me to go,
As I can see the stars beginning to show.
