Coins Of The Wishing Well Poem by Elvira Groenendijk

Coins Of The Wishing Well

far into the mystic wood
where light can do the dark no good
where sunlight struggels to touch the ground
and birds songs echoes in the lost sound
in that wood there stands i tell
an old and magic wishing well
full of stories left untold
wishes of the young and old

now a young child there stands
to see all the coins he bends
over the stone edge of the well
and sees the coins of stories he can't tell
'cause by that same old well in the wood
an old man once there stood
and threw in a coin as well
wishing one day he could tell
his wife in heaven up above
all about his neverending love
tell her how much she was missed
tell her what he just had wished

another coin that once was thrown
by a boy all on his own
that poor boy with his heart so broken
made a wish he so far left unspoken
wishes for his heart to heel
wishes now to never feel
there stood a girl so broken and sad
threw in a coin with all the hope she had
a girl who wished to suffer no longer
wished for her heart to be stronger
for she could no longer bare her state of mind
she wished to go and leave it all behind

a women on the run from war
wished for her family she left so far
the coin fell in together with a tear
and she wished for her family she held so dear

a man so poor, down to his last dime
hoped to make a wish just in time
crossed his heart and made that wish
for all those coins to be his
wished for once to be heard and seen
be a different man as he had been

that little boy there by the well
made a wish i will now tell
for all those wishes to come true
for those who hope like me and you
