Come Have A Cup Of Tea - Poem by Prayag Saikia

You have come
Please have a cup of tea
You are shivering so much
Perhaps it is covered in a thick blanket of fog outside
Why did you not put on warm clothes
If you don't have one
Take one from me
I have quite a few woollen shirts
In my store
Fetch the chair
Near the heater
Give a little scope
To entertain you
Who knows
If you are the Jesus
My mind is encapsulated
By the story of Tolstoy
With the very caption
Where there is love
There is God
That have made my life
Still enjoyable
After so much is lost
If I sometimes feel
That I am the one
In the form of Martin the cobbler
Jesus appeared and told
In a hazy dream
To Martin
Who dozed off reading the Bible
Martin I'd come tomorrow
To your side
Just wait
On the day of awaitance
Do you know who came by first
Stepanis, a retired soldier
He was removing the white snow
That gathered in front of
The house of Martin
Martin beckoned Stepanis
Shivering in the cold
And offered him several cups of tea One after another

You are the first well wisher
That I met you this morning
I am telling you
As Martin told Stepanis
Come have a cup a cup of tea
Let me abide by
The religion of humanism
So that Jesus can tell me
I was in hunger
You offered me food
I had been thirsty
You offered me drink
I was a destitute
You provided me shelter
Hello, please summon my Nurse
She has gone to fetch some warm water for me
I must bathe whether the Sun comes out or not
Her name is Pranati
The actual name is different
This one is me pet name for her
So long
I have been calling you
With your good name
Today but
I shall call you with a different name
The name from the story of Tolstoy
Warms my heart even today
So many times
While offering tea
To so many people
So many times
I have said in my mind
Please have a cup of tea Stepanis
Isn't it a beautiful name(!)
This mother of your bosom friend
And the cobbler named Martin
How close to each other...
Isn't it Stepanis
