Complexity I Love Poem by Alejandro Torres

Complexity I Love

Don’t know how to understand
Your human complexity
See you frown
When you should be happy
And see your smile
When you should be sad
Don’t know how to take
Your hidden offer
The cost
My life
Should your chosen find out
But you seem
More than worth the risk
And I think that’s why you skirt away
Afraid to actually fall
For someone who can understand you
Better than your reflection
Can represent the image
Of what you think others see
But who you are
Is just an idea of the face
Hidden behind your mask of tragic beauty
Of fragile glances
And tentative smiles
What one should ask
Is how did you come to be
Of divine creation
A child like you should be
With the allure of Delilah
An inspiration to Cupid himself
And this young fool
So, Lover, look harder
At the you, you could be
The you my eyes do see
And know that out there
Someone cares for you
Not for the bounty of your body
Not for the lost treasures
Of hidden Heavenly Kingdoms
In the touch of your lips
Or for the gentle flow of love
The essence of Amour itself
From between your hips
But simply for the small pleasures
Of saying your name
And seeing you smile
Of holding your hand
And feeling it grasp mine
Of knowing that you know
That somewhere out there
Just a poor fool
Such as myself
Cherishes you
Because you are
Simply as you should be
You
