Complicated Hearts Poem by John Yaws

Complicated Hearts

I've never been good lookin'
And prob'ly not that smart…
I guess I'm simple minded,
With a complicated heart.

This heart of mine keeps saying,
There is love for you somewhere.
My mind just says, Forget it-
No one really cares.

I should pay attention-
To what I've found is true…
The grass is never greener-
And my life's a deeper blue.

I'd like to tell my stories-
But, Lord, where would I start.
I'm a simpleminded fool
With a complicated heart.

My life has been a long one-
Soon it's sure to end.
The sum of all my problems
Was the same place I begin.

I guess I'm somewhat challenged
When it comes to writing arts,
The end result of simple minds
And complicated hearts.
