Concrete Rose Poem by Joseph Dos Santos

Concrete Rose

She opened the door
To see him standing there,
His face full of joy
And hers of despair,
The wind blew through
And gave him a chill,
His thoughts running wild
But his heart standing still,
He opened his mouth
But she had something to say,
She knew it was wrong
Leading him on everyday,
Her words pierced his heart
Beyond the damage of a knife,
For he felt no reason for anything
Anymore in his life,
He finally stopped her
It too much to bear,
He yearned to say something
But out only came a tear,
It fell on the lonely flower
As he gave it to her,
Then he turned and walked away
His empty heart left to stir,
She realized finally what she had done
But it was too late,
Her horrible decision
Had determined their fate,
Now only the concrete rose grows
In the stone garden of her heart,
Where his soul was shattered
And hers drifted apart.
