Conflicted Poem by Andre Brown

Conflicted

It's hard to wait around for something you know might never happen,
But it's harder to give up when you know it's everything you want.
I pace the edges of hope softly tapping on the door of a future my heart dares to confront.

Time spent with you is like water that slips through my hands,
I cherish every drop, though it won't ever stay.
As sure as the hourglass has falling sand,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.

So if waiting is losing, then let me be lost,
Let patience be proof of how deeply I care.
Some loves are a risk that demand every cost—
And I'd rather feel everything
Than live unaware.
