Conflicting Testimony Poem by Laurence Overmire

Conflicting Testimony

He was made
Of dark stuff composed
Searching for lightness
of matter
To lift the veiled guise
of truth

Misunderstood and maligned

By those who
Would crush
in abject fear
Mirrors unflattering to
Carefully composed image
Irreverent of formalities of structure
and coherence
Plying their innocence
On flagpoles of disgust

Not caring to consider

Alternate tributaries
Branching
In rivers of
Turbulent human
Experience.
