Contrast Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

Contrast

Don't know…
Where to look

The beautiful
Trees…
Covered with
Fruits, flowers
And leaves…
Fully clothed.

Or the men and
Women…
Strutting out
Their stuff
In blobs of
Flesh…
Sparsely attired,
Semi-naked.

I would prefer
The former to
The latter, but
I have no choice.
Do I?

It amazes me
To see this
Paradox of
Existence!

My views
Of nature's
Picturesque
Spring-summer
Blossoms…
Being ceaselessly
Blighted by
Unsightly bodies
That leave me
Distracted…
With their
Lewd images of
Voyeuristic vulgarity.

Cleavages, butts, bellies
And thighs, walking on
Micro-mini, long legs…
Vying for the attention of
Matted chests and arm-pits
With pumped up triceps…
Shirtless bodies, aplenty
On show, I don't know
Where to go...to view
Nature's pristine greens,
Unadulterated.

In this sea of semi-nude
Dregs, for some decency,
My vision begs…
