Covid, Lock Downs And Sports Poem by Kimberly Byng

Covid, Lock Downs And Sports

Athletes stopped by Covid-19
Virtual viewers
Cheers from afar
Leagues shut down
Like old cars on the outskirts of town
Cancellations, sit outs, too much risks
Pandemic sports take you back to the days of floppy disks.

Amatuer athletes
And pros
Suffer devastating blows
Working out at home
Virtual coaching
Zoom, zoom, zoom
Ending up on the couch most afternoons

A highly transmittable disease in sporting environments
Long incubation period,
Asymptomatic and symptomatic indeed.
Minimize human to human contact
Practice personal hygiene
Eliminate risky behaviors
Keep your hands clean, clean, clean.

Mask up, mask up they say
It should keep the virus at bay
Trust the science
What is science?
The goal post seems to change each day
Athletes need to breathe
In order to play!

I have been affected!
Mentally infected!
At the beginning and in between
I thought by now things would go back to how they used to be.
But still I cannot train as I want
Or put in my hours
Because of lockdowns, curfew and restrictions.
I know it affects one and all
But I really need my tennis and basketball.
