Coward Poem by Andrew Schenk

Coward

I heard a saying "Cowards die a thousand deaths, but the brave only dies once"
If that is true, then I am the biggest coward of them all. I can no longer count how many times I died on the inside.

I died in 2008 when two of my friends was blown up bled out right in front of me, I held one as he asked for his mother who was eight thousand miles away.
I died when a father handed me his lifeless blue child, who drowned in the flood with the hopes I could save him. Every breath I blew into him became an unanswered prayer.
I died when I had to lift my best friend off his rope, I did not see the signs, didn't understand his struggle and I just laid there with his bodily fluids he puked all over me
I died when the man I killed was not actually a man, but a boy, why did he have to shoot at me
There are many more, I wish not to write because I am a coward and still cannot face it all.
