Crystal Pond Poem by Robert Burgan

Crystal Pond

I look into your eyes they are deeper than crystal ponds
I can see the pebbles at the bottom getting caught up in the tide beyond
I need to decide whether I want to dive into the depths of you
Or continue to sit on the shoreline contemplating the odds I can't see through
Another opportunity to go for broke, I'm content with broke
I've been broke for years on end engaging my efforts into 'what if's' and 'I don't know's'
Well now I know I get consumed by things; it's what I do best
The chest of the sea is my pallet
I can taste the deadline dropping down like parachutes or rescue vests
If I drown in your eyes I'll be visible beneath the current
I can remain on the shoreline counting stars and asking 'is this worth it? '
Well it's always worth the effort and you are worth the wait
My mind has never delved this far off into the distance that you demonstrate
You're a muse, effigy that I know exists
The question in the back of my mind is this
Will you follow me into the ocean or will you be the sea that I can never swim in?

Swim Robert
If you drown you'll be visible within the arms of a crystal pond
Clear as day
The realest bond.
