Daddy Poem by Arash Pakdaman

Daddy

I lean my head downward —
is that really me?
Or just an actor in the scene?

So reckless I was,
proud, with no magic,
yet no less the devil,
my thoughts tearing me apart.

That typical manly boy
who once thought he was a mule
is now a brave, craving man,
chasing my highest end —
mad with the search.

---

Daddy,
I'm surprised now,
with all your manly scent,
how you know me so well,
and how you struck my mind
like a ringing bell —
the source of my light.

You taught me to be me,
and now I will fight
with every single piece of myself.

---

Daddy,
you can lie back now,
rest with all your needs —
the ones you swallowed
like you'd never been.

The watch you sold,
the soul you sold,
you dared,
and I didn't.

I hope I can be you —
my hero.
