Daddy Poem by Katy Rachel

Daddy

Daddy, oh, Daddy,
How do you do it?
I try to be as strong as you.
You act like there’s nothing to it.
But behind your bold words
And your gentle, kind glance,
I know that you’re hiding
A pretty scared man.
How do you go
Day after day,
Hiding your fears,
Putting them all away?
I know sometimes
I only make it worse.
Instead of a blessing,
At times I think I’m a curse.
If I was you
And you were me,
I would get the heck out of here,
Because it’s plain to see
I go against you
Time after time.
But you’ll never say I’m worth
Even a dime.
I know in your eyes
I’m as priceless as can be.
And that’s the way
You know it should be.
I’m sorry for the things
That I can’t seem to get right.
And I pray for my forgiveness
Every single night.
But Daddy, oh, Daddy,
Won’t you see how it is?
You’re the reason this girl
Has a reason to live.
You love me gently
With all your heart.
You’re the one who gives me
A jump at the start.
I want to carry out
Everything I can do,
Because I know how much
I mean to you.
But Daddy, oh, Daddy,
I want you to see,
I want you to understand
How much YOU mean to ME.
