Daddy As A Cowboy Poem by Della Hodgson James

Daddy As A Cowboy

Rating: 5.0

Long, long ago, while on daddy's knee
He would tell us things that used to be.
On the Kansas plains, so broad and free
Daddy used to be a real Cowboy.
He would tell of thrills, of dangers nigh
When stampeding cattle was want to fly,
Of gopher holes, that treacherous were
And storms that left the atmosphere a blur.

Of riding night herd, as was herdsman creed
Howling wolves, with racing speed,
‘Twas on one such an occasion of dread
Daddy was thrown beneath his frightened steed.

A cowboy's life is not all strife
Yet, it left dear Daddy, maimed for life,
He went limping down through the years
My hero, with no faltering fears.

Humorous, good natured, patient and kind
No faults with our Daddy, ever entered our mind.
Maimed, yet over life's difficulties did ride
Dear, good honest Daddy, was our joy and pride.
