Daily Bread Poem by Laurence Overmire

Daily Bread

You may wonder why
I write a thousand poems
Hours upon hours of time
Whose only reward
Is the laying of brick upon brick

In the building of myself
A structure so appallingly

Incomplete, yet
Without it
On a plot of barren ground
I am truly
Nothing.
