Daily Walk Poem by Brent Kincaid

Daily Walk

It seems that I am always walking,
I can’t see so much when I ride.
Even a bicycle makes it go too fast;
I like the view when I set the stride.
So much about life is fleeting;
Ten second mini-scenes of joy.
Sometimes a person doing yoga
Or a two year-old with a toy.
But just saying ‘hi’ to passing people,
Smiling back at the stranger, me,
Lets me connect to the world around,
Makes everything a part of me.

I am part of you and you are part of me,
And we are part of every little thing we see.
We are not some isolated islands in the sea.
We are all together in a wondrous family.

Some of my friends today were strangers
I met as I walked through my past.
I never knew if they’d be just passing nods
Or that kind of friendship that would last.
Something in their answers or their questions
Triggered further need to know them more.
A friend appeared like magic from the meeting,
A brand new friend I had not known before.
It seems to be that we can’t make arrangements
For special people to come our way.
It seems we need to accept the change involved
In meeting passing strangers on our way.

I am part of you and you are part of me,
And we are part of every little thing we see.
We are not some isolated islands in the sea.
We are all together in a wondrous family.

Lovely vistas, soothing landscapes
I see artistic scenes of every kind.
I walk and I am Renoir and Van Gogh
Creating masterpieces with my mind.
I see nice little bridges that cross a stream
And trees turned romantic by the wind.
Momentary sunbeams make texture of the land
And then they move and start it all again.
Sunshine turns faces into sculptures of gold
Like ancient Grecian statues that can talk.
These transform what might have been exercise
Into a grand adventure when I walk.

I am part of you and you are part of me,
And we are part of every little thing we see.
We are not some isolated islands in the sea.
We are all together in a wondrous family.
