Govindas have come,
Govindas have,
Folks chanting,
Govindas looking colourful,
Frisking, frolicking,
Gathering round
In groups
And the dahi handi,
The handi
Dangling,
Dangling from,
Reminding us,
Taking to yore,
Picturing Krishna as a child
As Makhan-chor, butter-thief,
Natakhat Krishna, Naughty Krishna,
Earning a bad name as from gopis
For mischief done
But the festivity telling of the joyous occasion,
The gala event organized,
The jubiliation felt, exaltation marked,
Followed by the congregation of participants,
The dance and music following
Infusing a thrill and new spirit
And the attempts made
In reaching the top
To bring it down the dahi handi,
Instead of the deterring bouts of water
To foil it
The dahi handi of Krishna, for Krishna
To celebrate the joyful event and mark the day
As a happening for Janmashtami, Krishna Janmashtami.
