Darkness Sleeps.. Poem by Chana Peake

Darkness Sleeps..

She huddled in the corner so alone
as she knew the fate of someone as her own
looking around she felt safe
in the dark surrounded place
no words of happiness did she see
all she heard were her own screams
screams she knew were screams of pain
screams she knew that would never fade.

She stared above to clouds so dark
her heart never sparking a single spark
so soft the stars glowed above
so her heart empty of love
so soft was the touch of rain
she tilted her head up and embraced the pain
as her fingers lay limp by her side
so red the blood flowing like a tide.

so dull her eyes
so dull her heart
whispers of pain
echoes the darkness in the rain
cuts of pain bleeding so brightly
feeling so numb, with content sighing
tears falling endlessly, never dying.

She huddled in the corner so alone
as she knew the fate of someone as her own
as the metal edge bit her palm
she made not one cry of alarm
feeling hotness overflow her hand
feeling alone, till the hour came at command.

her breathing came in short soft gasps
her soul going through every gap.
her breathing stops and ends her night
in the dark portrayed firelight.
