Date, Coffee Poem by Kaitlyn Lancaster

Date, Coffee

You are sat across the room from him,
His hair loosely gelled into waves.
His smile is shining across the classroom,
Making him impossible not to notice.
You manage to pull your eyes away,
Embarrassment settling in.
Why? You ask yourself,
Unable to come up with a reason you hide your head in your arms.
Closing your eyes,
you try to think of something else,
But his golden face,
His hazel eyes,
His soft hair
and
His dazzling smile all are still there even with shut eyes.
"Hey dude, you okay? " I hear a voice say,
Slowly lifting my head,
I blink my eyes in shock to see him stood above me.
"You okay, dude, you looked a bit out of it? " He asked again.
I nodded;
the words have gone from my throat.
He goes to walk away,
My hand grasps his in desperation.
"Date…coffee, tomorrow, after school? " I hear a voice asking,
Shock setting in as I realise it's me.
"Yeah sure, Mate. See you then."
He replied before walking off to his mates.
I had done it,
No rejection,
A sigh of relief as I felt the fears disappear,
All of them melting away.
What a word, yes.
It's beautiful really,
Just
Like
Him.
