Day After-1 Poem by Smrui Ranjan Mohanty

Day After-1

And after

DAY AFTER-1(Retirement)

I woke up to the alarm
Telling me with a disdainful smile
Man! why are you in a hurry
Now you have all the time in the world
Live as you wish

Not a lazy morning it was
Did everything I am accustomed to
Tried to concentrate on meditation
But my mind was not with me
It was somewhere else
Interacting with familiar faces
In the distant horizon

Not so easy to come out of the hangover
And accept the present as it is
Difficult to be in the present
With your mind resting in the past
Very tough to come out of habits
Which have been ingrained
And with you for years and days

Money has never been an issue
Nor lure of chair
Know not what I miss
Why am I not at peace
Though I am with my family
My trusted friends, plants, pets and poetry
Do I miss the beauty of human relationships
I often ask myself the question?

Just made a beginning
To gather me to live the rest of my life
I know time will heal
Though it may not fill
The void will remain
But life will move on
Leaving moments
Of happiness and sorrow far behind
