Day Stamp Poem by Trevor Singh

Day Stamp

Not being able to swallow this lump inside my neck
Is harder than ever knowing in the first place,
As tastes of bitterness overcome the sweetness
That was once portrayed as a beautiful image.

You're jagged-edged.
A dull knife with no way to sharpen itself.
No intent on being optimistic about who you are,
Or where your mind will be going in the next few hours.

I sit and stare at the blank lines of paper
While you sit and watch the minutes pass by.
The only words shining through my mind are the ones that
Could be no less of the negativity in my heart.
You could never understand.

I'm drifting away from myself..
Watching the cracks in the ceiling leak into holes,
A neverending phenomenon of color-coated dream codes.

This is the memory where I was laughing with you.
Remember that one?
Now this one's in bold, you have an italic heart.
This is something I need more closure on,
Since you've disappeared.
