Daydream Taxi Poem by Jack Kennedy

Daydream Taxi

familiar wind burned hot.
familiar look caught my eye
ancient memories broke the surface.
suddenly, I was somewhere...I knew not.

Absinthe and rum in the air, a salty spray.
dark haired maiden with a shadowy face
Lies beside me on a Caribbean cay.

brown skin glistening, sweat dripping.
beach strewn with splintered timber
torn topsail blocked the sun. Warm breeze.

Intrusive Horns honking in rhythm
5th Avenue gawkers voice a steady hum.
The electronic billboard flashes
'Captain Morgan Rum.'
The taxi comes to a stop. My life...resumes.
