Dead Over Dead Poem by Jordan Everett

Dead Over Dead

Dead over dead
for Moses Butler
who died in 1801
at the age of 86

Dead over dead
adding color to the dreary,
grey
stone

Dead over dead
for those in fires
and crimes
and drownings
and age

Dead over dead
for the fallen in battle
and the fallen from trees

Dead over dead
crackling under your feet
as you walk
over heads

Dead over dead
for Captain Pownal Deming
beloved son
who died in 1795

Dead over dead
some will be long missed
others will grow again
next spring

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I enjoy visiting graveyards in the fall when the ground is covered in dead leaves.
