Deadly Is The Night Poem by Laurence Overmire

Deadly Is The Night

The quiet sound of living alone
Distracted day dispersed in blackness
Thoughts conniving, digging in

Haunted churchyards, weedy cemeteries
Wicked fingers prying open
Pounded nails from the weaker wedge of wood

Exhumed with maggots these
Telling tales
Blood a river that never dies

Carrying time, in and out
The closing ventricles
Chambers of forbidden entry

In the hollow center of
The all too human heart.
