Dear Coronavirus (Aka Covid 19) Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

Dear Coronavirus (Aka Covid 19)

You are a pest
Coming into my own space
To wreak havoc and declare war
You do not have time for diplomacy
You're actual messing around with diplomats
You have gathered your children
And displaced mine
With your toxic hands
You have travelled thousands of miles
Spreading your reckless death threats into all corners of the world
Your appetite is immense
You're causing a lot of fear and panic with your eating habits
Your favourite meal is our lungs
You know you are hurting us dearly
By chopping slices of our flesh with your ugly mouth
And killing our dear friends and loved ones
In your murderous spree
You are a formidable foe
But we will continue to fight you
And kill your children
You will lose
It's just a matter of time
Stay away from my home
And stay away from my face and my neighbour's face
You flesh eating monster
You terrify me
But I am not giving up
I will listen and obey all the precautionary requirements
I will do my part to protect my fellow human beings
I will do social distancing even if it means not drinking my favourite beer at my favourite spot
I will do it
I will avoid crowded places and restrict my interactions with my friends
It hurts but I will do it
I will screen myself daily
And self-quarantine if needs be
I will seek help whenever necessary
I will inform my family and my neighbour about your careless ways
I will even tell my nanny and my children to wash their hands often
I will cover my mouth with my elbow when I cough or sneeze
Because I don't want to spread your malicious children
I will be vigilant and pray for my nation and the world at large
One day we will celebrate your defeat
We will gather in our favourite spots
And enjoy our favourite sports
Drinking our favourite beers
We will rejoice than never before
And we will bury you deeper than any other creature before you
We will learn and adapt accordingly and you shall never return
And I shall write poems about you
Not to berate you
But to narrate our story
Humanity's courageous battle
Our defeat and our victories
Will be displayed
In our galleries and libraries
For our children's children
To know the true meaning of humanity
