Deaths For Sale Poem by Dilip Mohapatra

Deaths For Sale

DEATHS FOR SALE

Deaths
all kinds of deaths
both natural and accidental
suicidal or homicidal
induced by drugs or disease
instantor prolonged
or even fractional
where one continues to
die in instalments
some gory and ghastly
and some pristine and peaceful
some gross
some sublime
but all are up for sale.

Some are displayed in the show case
dressed up in appropriate regalia
and some stacked on racks
in the basement
but each one
with their price tags
clearly visible
some showing attractive offers
with decent discounts.

You may select what you want
from the catalogue
on the counter
or even can place your order
on line through the
self service kiosk
while you may pick up
some freebies kept in two jars.

The one on the counter
contains deaths
of your conscience
of your compassion
of your character
covered in attractive wrappings
but on demand you may
access another jar
kept below the counter
away from the gaze of the customers
that contains deaths
of your hatred
of your intolerance
of your ego
and of the seven deadly sins.

You got to barter your life
to buy your death
a life of virtue would get you the best
while a worthless
cheap and useless one
will get you what you deserve.

It's all in your hands
and the choice is yours.
