Debts - Cornell Poem by Bill Grace

Debts - Cornell

I owe Ithaca's Cornell a thank you,
despite its hierarchies that can kill,
for welcome in its cavernous stacks as an undergraduate
- before the internet changed even scholarship -
an opportunity for fresh and deeper discovery of life's complexity
a British version of "Better Homes and Gardens" about 1932
"... the savior of Western Christian civilization
against the Bolshevik menace." - Hitler
five years before dropping bombs on Saint Paul's Cathedral.
