Deliverance Poem by Phan Thanh gian

Deliverance

Rating: 1.5

The bonding starts early on:
Bound with your dear parents,
Who cater to your every need
The ties that bind
To your family, your dearest
All are inseparable, inviolable
And as you get older
The noose gets tighter
Firmly attached by all sides
To your belongings
Your entourage grow roots within you

Everytime you try to leave
Once you meet your love-match
Then the wildest fear invades your mind
Fear of losing, of oblivion
Afraid of detachment
And of ultimate end

That once we let go of our world
Our freedom is unbound
In preparation for the final hours

By letting go of all worldly things
And seek the eternal light.
So do not be sad but rejoice
Of the final act of deliverance
Do not long to stay alive
To hang on in vain
Is to delude oneself
In the desperate act of self-preservation
One would suffer in distress
So learn to detach and let go
Of all things worldly...
