Departure Poem by Andrea Rieck

Here in darkness on this cold midnight plain
I see nothing as I wish, not a star
I fight with feelings that I cannot contain
For my hope lies shattered in a place so far

Why is it I do not know my own heart
How is it I do not even know me
I wait for someone to give me a start
But to my own life only I hold the key

I cannot weep here forever in this night
I have to do more than let my soul pray
I leave the dark past behind and seek the light
Find a warm place, bright like flowers in May

I’m not happy here - I cannot stay

I know I’ll find my dawn along the way
