'Deplorables - 2017' Poem by Mark J. Schulte

'Deplorables - 2017'

Nancy, oh Nancy, don't be so sad!
The 'Deplorable' State is really not bad.
And it's not controlled by Commissar Vlad;
it's becoming a libertarian dream.
(But DT's, admittedly, a bit of a cad.)

Nancy, oh Nancy, how 'bout a smile?
It often can cure the political bile
that's produced by the zealous xenophile,
who lives in the Hamptons and upper East Side,
and loves to condemn the 'Repub' rank-and-file.

Nancy, your sadness... no one can quell.
but West of the Hudson... are roses to smell!
And as Milton the poet once did foretell:
'the Minds is its own place' and in it you'd find
'a Hell of heaven, a heaven of Hell.'
