Desert-Palace Memories Poem by Fred Rik Kesner

Desert-Palace Memories

desert-palace memories

The marble halls where kings once sat alone
Now lie beneath a canopy of stone;
The silent desert wind begins to rise,
And turn the tallest monolith to bone.

The silent desert wind begins to rise
To sweep away the glory of our eyes;
The rusted crown is buried in the clay,
Where no one heeds the ruler or his lies.

The rusted crown is buried in the clay,
While endless shadows lengthen on the way;
The ink upon the parchment fades to dust,
And night consumes the memory of day.

The ink upon the parchment fades to dust,
And all our golden visions turn to rust;
The grandest fortress crumbles in the end,
To yield its broken honour to the gust.
