Desserts Within Poem by Aida Shaji

Desserts Within

I was never a muser of sand dunes until I found one-
Growing, spreading and engulfing me
The reminder of an earlier tide firmly gulping
my name enlarged upon those sands.

The writings on my daily morning teacup
Or the letters on my tees colour embolden,
frisking for heeds are likely to topple off
like the rejected exhibitionists,
in the lost mob.

The younger me is still in fear of darkness.
A supposed darkness in perfection for the little soul
that makes you reach out for the bedroom lamp
or for the lullaby of the fan in oscillation.

Infections vulgarise with the growing self,
So does the darkness that changes shades.
From blacks to ocean blues and to dusky browns,
Disregard, for I've held them tight for once.
