Dialogue. Poem by Yaritza Florencio

Dialogue.

Rating: 5.0

I want to get out of here and run away
I want to stay, face my fears, win his love...
I can’t stand another one day... just like today
I can’t just leave, fly away, not a bird, not a dove

I have to scream, fight, let it out
I can handle keeping it inside; no one has to see...
I won’t stay here; this place is not what I’m about
I don’t want to go, I have a dream, even if, you don’t agree

No dreams needed, action is all that matters
What if we die and they all forget...
I choose to accept the latter...
What if we regret...

All this just for a hug...for his touch?
What if we die or we lose a limb?
Stop thinking so much...
Listen, what if we love him?

We can finally leave all this behind.
What if he could be mine....?
Never have the rules outlined
What if he’s a sign?

If we stay, we stay confined....
If we stay it’s not denying heroism....
To us, a cage will be designed
We don’t always have to carry the only banner of socialism...

Is this how we make our decision?
This love and our beliefs both seem so idealistic...
All this time and now we sense our inner division...
Perhaps when we had nothing it was easy to be so simplistic...

I want to go and just forget
I would like to stay this way
Just start off as a cadet....
And, maybe, someday, your thoughts sway...
