The dark abyss receives no golden grace,
Where divers plunge to find a hidden spark;
A hidden joy is born in shadow's space,
As sorrow's pearl illuminates the dark.
By fierce combustion precious gold is made,
And crushed in vaults, the gem retains its light;
The earthly mound is broken by the spade,
A long devotion lives beyond the night.
If rivers fade to phantom desert views,
The thirsty bird demands the stormy skies;
No casual rain relieves the burning hues,
Yet rarest gems are prized by searching eyes.
The common dust is scattered to the floor,
But things most rare endure forevermore.
