Diamond Mind Child Of The Highways Poem by rawden lewis

Diamond Mind Child Of The Highways

With your laughter like seconds on a butterfly's wing
And your hand that just beckons even the silence to sing
You sit and give lessons on about everything
But what makes you feel that you're standing so tall
When everyone reckons you learnt how to swim
Years before you could crawl

With your rainbow type vision in each cloudy night
And that smile of derision that floods a great height
You reflect like a prism and torture the light
But how come you're certain that you will succeed
When all those who listen say you learnt how to write
Years before you could read

With your suitors like a pawn calling mate on a queen
And your hands keeping warm and your thumbs staying clean
You ridicule and scorn all the dwarfs that you've seen
But why do you figure you're top and complete
When the senile have sworn you perceived how to dream
Years before you could sleep

With your sparkle like shadows under eyes that have cried
And your gestures like echoes to a world you denied
You now gaze at meadows where all beggars ride
But where is the child I knew long ago
Or shouldn't I check those who went out and died
Years before they could grow
