Die Frühen Tage Des Winters (Waiting By The Elbe) Poem by Natalie Carr

Die Frühen Tage Des Winters (Waiting By The Elbe)

I am trying to remember something you said about
How the winter arrives
One moment it is nowhere to be seen
And then it is here
Persevering and demanding
Engulfing door frames
Breaking the rhythm of rivers
The Elbe unhinged. Maddening.
A hullabaloo of gurgling impatience to
Reach the outlet of sea
Cutting land like air.
Hurtling itself into new mornings.
Once the uncontainable has
Begun shaping creatures
It becomes another
An illusion of North Sea.
The end of the land ridden giants. A heart.
