Different Key Poem by Nina gáspari

Different Key

I tried singing in a different key
Although I could at times
Hear my voice cracking
I thought that melody
Could be me
I would sing everyone to sleep
And send them straight to Orpheus arms
I tried singing about love
But couldn´t reach to their hearts
Tried singing in a lower key
Trying to get them to notice me
Tried singing about romance
But couldn´t make them desire to dance
The crack in my voice would often make me wonder
If I should stop or continue to try to conquer
Their ears and minds
Trying to set them free from their caged lives
Suddenly my mouth was moving, as the band kept on playing
But my voice refused to echo what I thought I should be saying
I tried and tried singing in a different key
Only to find out
That wasn´t me
Now I´m back to my own songs
My own key, singing about what´s to come
And making peace with destiny.
