Dirge Poems - 6

1. Love Beyond Death
Death closed your eyes, but not the bond
That grew between our days;
Love is not flesh that time can claim,
Nor breath that fades away.
Wherever you have learned to be,
My heart already knows—
For love outlives the final step
And follows where you go.
2. Memory as Immortality
Your body rests, but not your life—
It lives where we recall;
In stories told, in habits kept,
In echoes down the hall.
So long as memory speaks your name
And love refuses end,
You walk the earth in borrowed hearts
And time becomes your friend.
3. Healing Through Mourning
We thought our tears would break us down,
That grief would leave us bare;
Yet sorrow carved a deeper space
Where gentleness could care.
Mourning did not erase the pain,
But taught the wound to breathe;
From loss, a slower strength was born
That learned how to believe.
4. Light After Darkness
The night was long and starless too,
The dark a heavy seam;
Yet dawn arrived without a sound
And proved the dark a dream.
So grief may linger, deep and true,
But cannot bar the way;
For even sorrow must release
The promise of the day.
5. Peace in Final Rest
Sleep now beyond the reach of fear,
Where burdens lose their name;
No struggle waits, no unfinished task,
No longing left to claim.
We grieve, but not in wild despair—
Your rest has made us wise;
For peace at last has found its home
Behind your closed eyes.
