Disappear
Sometimes—you know? —
I wish I could disappear.
Go far away,
without noise,
without a name,
without anyone.
I hate the world,
I hate everyone.
I'm disgusted by people
who pretend, who act,
who disguise themselves as something they're not.
Sometimes I hate myself
for being like soybeans.
I wish I were someone else,
different,
without this burning mind,
without this heart
that insists on feeling.
But I feel it.
I sink.
I cry.
I break.
I've done it so many times.
I wish things were different,
that they hurt less,
that the air weighed less.
But here I am:
smiling,
saying 'I'm okay'
when I'm not.
Because life goes on,
and so do I.
You're expected to confront,
to adapt,
to pretend,
to lie elegantly.
Be good,
be bad,
be functional.
What does it matter?
