Do I Have A Voice Of My Own? Poem by Shalom Freedman

Do I Have A Voice Of My Own?

I listened to the poems of the known
Some had voices of their own
But all were not mine
What is mine?
Where is mine?
Do I have a voice?
I know I do
I have many voices I can play at being
But I do really have one of my own
Can it be a voice of poetry?
I know and do not know
I want it to be
I have striven for years for it to be
This is my voice
Listen
I am alone with the sound
Only my own.

Poems should not have a voice. They should speak universally.++10
