Do This In Memory Of Me - The Last Supper Poem by Jacson Gelato

Do This In Memory Of Me - The Last Supper

'' Do this in memory of me'' - He said
when He broke the bread and gave it
to His twelve disciples
who had gathered around Him;
He then took the cup of wine
and asked them to drink.
Christ asked them to remember Him
by celebrating the Passover feast-the Last Supper
always in togetherness and unity.
He did not ask them to remember Him
by re-enacting his crucifixion
neither he asked for the Stations of the Cross
to be conducted and followed;
but the characterization of the crucifixion
and observance of the Way of the Cross -
which is re-created by men year after year
invokes a sadness over the suffferings
that Christ had to bear and endure;
though Christ Himself had asked to be remembered
by sharing of bread and wine.
Yes, the Last Supper is the only ceremony
which Christ Himself wanted mankind
to perform in memory
of His sacrifice and love for humanity.
