Do you know how to smile
To cover up the pain
Holding back the tears
That threaten like the rain

Can you keep that mask in place
All that the world can see
While inside you are dying
Ever struggling to be free

Pain that comes from nowhere
Dark and lonely deep inside
As you're longing to run away
From all the world to hide

So that you can drop the mask
Take a break from the fight
A few moments to recoup
And recover from your plight

Even steel has a breaking point
When bent beyond restraints
As did they reach their limits
When tested were the saints

It matters not that you falter
When tears are too much to bear
Only that you stand again
Move forward through all despair

Do you know how to smile
While inside you slowly die
To face the world despite it all
Clinging darkness to deny
