Don't Worry, Your Time Will Come Poem by Raimi Babatunde

Don't Worry, Your Time Will Come

Like an obsessed peripatetic
I have traversed the soils of Africa
From the serenity of Obafemi Awolowo University
To a stint in University de Abomey Calavi
And now to Nigeria's University of first choice
I have never seen a people so confused

Who calls off a wedding on a wedding night?
Imagine getting off before you get off
For a well rehearsed match long waited
Why play Deputy Jesus like an immortal?
When men play God, the result is calamitous

Agog, ready to get tipsy and engaged
We had the gowns, laced with a scroll
An insignia of our academic story
Like a bride we already fitted our gowns
The stage was set but you blackened the sun
Don't worry, your time will come

Congratulations my esteemed mates
You already blazed the trail
At first it seemed impossible
Until we did it...Weldone
Now your name is cast in gold
Although we are in the blues
But our ship already berthed
Congratulations!
