Down Poem by fred carter

Down

Early morning dew,
Settles on the balconies,
And slated roofs,
Clothes left out,
Overnight,
Are cold and sodden,
Streets are empty,
I feel like some alley cat,
Up before anyone,
Slinking across rooftops,
Balancing on walls,
But me,
I’m down here,
On cobbled street,
Wishing away for freedom,
The weight in my pocket,
Keeps me down,
The weight in my heart,
Keeps me down,
Like a dog.
