Drakon Ultim Poem by Kathleen Grigsby

Drakon Ultim

Looped
around the pillar, she
cries lonely to the darkening
void, until her long skull echoes with the
sound

Only
shattering and empty-eyed
palaces await her madness, stone and
shades caked with now-shuddering dust from time
immemorial

What
now is this forgotten
denizen waiting for, crying
crested in the graveyard of a civilization long
defunct

Sinuous
kindred swept away by time's
tides, since even before the death of this new
necropolis, now she longs for bright/racing/teeming
lights

Under
a sky held forever in
shadow, and when all mortal thought fades, the
broken shell of a city will hear the last legend of first nightmares
mourn
